What it covers

This course introduces you to design strategies and methodologies that support circular economy principles by eliminating waste, extending product lifecycles, and building regenerative systems. You will explore foundational circular design strategies for products and materials, using case study examples and approaches from different sectors and practices. Through hands-on projects, you will investigate how circular design can strategically intervene across all phases of a product's lifecycle - from material selection and production processes to use patterns, repair opportunities, and end-of-life considerations. In deepening your understanding of product lifecycles, you will reflect on your positionality, place-based approaches to materials and responsible practice. Through collaborative projects, you will create design proposals that demonstrate circular economy principles in action, preparing you to contribute to the sustainable transformation of industries. This course is an option course in the Regenerative Futures minor.
