What it covers

First Peoples Design Engagement 1 is undertaken within the Architecture Design Electives offered through the BP250 program. This studio-based course introduces the foundational knowledge, skills and concepts that underpin Indigenous design engagement and culturally responsive architectural practice. This course has its own design focus and way of working, drawing on historical, theoretical, cultural, Country-centred and community-engaged approaches within Indigenous architecture. A balloting process assigns specific offerings within the First Peoples Design Engagement minor. Refer to minor-specific posters for semester details and objectives. As part of the First Peoples Design Engagement minor, this studio-based course develops capabilities for Indigenous design engagement and culturally responsive practice that support your work in the First Peoples Design Engagement: Design Studio and First Peoples Design Engagement 2 studio-based course. Projects explore principles of designing with Country and effective consultation and engagement relevant to contemporary architectural practice.
